Firefighters do not like to ask for help - they provide help. They take your problem, make it their problem, fix the problem, and make things better then when they arrived.
But we are asking for help. You don't have to suit up, climb a ladder, lift a patient into the ambulance or man a hose. In fact, the SVSMVFR Department has several women volunteers.
There are many ways you can help. The Fire and Rescue Department has three main areas: Administration, Operations, and Operation Support. Operations (fighting fires and rescuing people) and Operation Support requires full and competent training. Crossing between these two areas are several disciplines: Emergency Medical Responder, Driver/Engineer, Rescue Technician, Hazard Mitigation and Traffic Control.
